The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has successfully intercepted 12 smuggled cars at the Manila Port, which were misdeclared as “assorted car accessories and supply.” These vehicles were found in two separate shipments that arrived at the Manila International Container Port (MICP), consigned to Danesh Consumer Goods Trading from the United States.

Details of the Smuggled Vehicles
The vehicles in question include several Honda Civics, an Acura Integra, a Mini Cooper, and Honda S2000 models. These cars were initially declared as accessories, but after being subjected to x-ray scanning, the Bureau of Customs confirmed they were motor vehicles. The total estimated value of the smuggled cars is P10.8 million.
BOC’s Actions and Investigation
According to BOC Deputy Commissioner Juvymax Uy, they received solid information that the shipments may involve illegal smuggling of vehicles under the guise of importing parts and accessories. “We had solid information that these shipments may be smuggling motor vehicles into our country under the guise of importing car accessories and parts,” said Uy in a statement.
BOC’s Commitment to Tackling Smuggling
BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio also commented on the issue, stressing the bureau’s commitment to tackling smuggling activities. “The BOC is not beating around the bush. We have an all-hands-on-deck approach, and we are ready to use all our resources—both technical and technological—to get to the bottom of these smuggling activities,” he stated.
Legal Actions and Accountability
The Bureau of Customs is set to file appropriate legal cases against those involved in the smuggling operation. This interception is a testament to the agency’s ongoing efforts to secure the country’s ports and ensure that illegal goods, such as smuggled cars, do not enter the Philippines undetected.
Ensuring Security at the Manila Port
This interception is part of the BOC’s broader efforts to manage and monitor the Port of Manila efficiently while also working to meet its revenue target of nearly P1.06 trillion for the year.
