MANILA – In response to the magnitude 6.9 tremor that struck Cebu’s northeastern towns and cities on September 30, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has deployed additional mobile kitchens to provide hot meals to families displaced by the earthquake.
The mobile kitchens are aimed at ensuring that evacuees in temporary shelters have access to nutritious food during the extended disaster relief and recovery period.

Deployment of Mobile Kitchens
DSWD-7, which covers the Central Visayas region, has been operating a mobile kitchen in Bogo City since October 1. The mobile kitchen from Western Visayas arrived early on Saturday and is now serving evacuees at the San Remigio Sports Complex in San Remigio town. Additionally, mobile kitchens from Calabarzon and Eastern Visayas are expected to arrive in Cebu by Sunday or Monday, bringing further support to the affected areas.
Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD Disaster Response Management Group explained that each region is allocated a mobile kitchen to ensure a steady supply of food during the disaster recovery efforts.
These kitchens, distributed in the first quarter of the year, are part of the department’s intensified disaster response initiatives, which aim to provide hot meals and reduce FFP-fatigue (the exhaustion from eating only family food packs (FFPs) and ready-to-eat food (RTEF) over an extended period).
Importance of Hot Meals in Disaster Relief
Providing hot meals is essential during disaster relief operations, especially in the aftermath of such a devastating earthquake. Dumlao emphasized that the DSWD recognizes the importance of offering evacuees access to nutritious meals to help them maintain their health and well-being during this difficult time.
Relief Items
In addition to the hot meals, the DSWD has been distributing family food packs (FFPs) and ready-to-eat food (RTEF) to affected families in the evacuation centers. These relief items are part of the government’s efforts to ensure that no one goes hungry as they recover from the earthquake.
Continuous Relief Operations
With thousands of affected families displaced, the DSWD remains committed to supporting the recovery efforts by ensuring the timely distribution of relief goods. The mobile kitchens are a vital part of this initiative, offering warm, comforting food to evacuees who are enduring difficult circumstances.
