MANILA, Philippines – July 2025
The Drug War and E-Sabong Killings may be linked, according to Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, who confirmed that an investigation is underway.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) is looking into possible connections between drug-related activities and the e-sabong killings that have been taking place across the country.

Investigation into the Link Between Drug War and E-Sabong Killings
Remulla pointed out a significant development during a recent arrest in Meycauayan, where drug suspects were found to have connections to the e-sabong industry.
This has led authorities to believe that there might be an intersection between the two sectors. Remulla explained that the investigation is focused on understanding how drug syndicates and e-sabong killings are intertwined.
Abduction Case and Death Squads
One key case that Remulla highlighted involved the abduction of an e-sabong agent’s partner, allegedly by individuals connected to both police officers and drug syndicates. Remulla suggested that the death squads involved in the drug war could also be responsible for the e-sabong killings, including the missing sabungeros (cockfighting enthusiasts).
These death squads may be involved in contract killings, which could explain the disappearances of several individuals linked to the e-sabong industry.
Forensic Investigations and New Developments
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has also been examining remains found near Taal Lake, where 34 cockfighting enthusiasts went missing. Forensic experts have confirmed that the remains were a mix of human and animal remains. Remulla believes that there is more to the e-sabong killings than initially thought, and the ongoing investigation may uncover new details.
Moving Forward: Government’s Plan
Despite the lack of clear evidence connecting the drug war with the e-sabong killings, Remulla emphasized that the government is making progress. The DOJ, along with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), has been conducting search operations around Taal Lake.
Remulla stated that while they are not yet able to establish concrete links, the new discoveries and investigation into the missing sabungeros show that the government is committed to uncovering the truth.
Conclusion
The potential link between the Drug War and E-Sabong Killings remains under investigation, with authorities determined to bring justice to the victims of both.
As the investigation continues, Remulla and the DOJ are focused on piecing together the connections between drug syndicates, death squads, and the e-sabong industry.
