Class Suspensions for July 23 Due to Heavy Rains

Class suspensions have been announced for July 23 due to the heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon (habagat) affecting several areas in the Philippines.

The rains have caused local government units (LGUs) to take necessary measures to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Areas Affected by Class Suspensions

  • Navotas City in Metro Manila has suspended face-to-face classes at all levels in both public and private schools.
  • Malolos City in Bulacan has also declared class suspensions for all levels in public and private schools due to the bad weather conditions.

PAGASA’s Rainfall Warnings

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, and Rizal have been placed under an orange rainfall warning.

This means that these areas are expected to receive 15 to 30 millimeters of rain within the next three hours, increasing the risk of flooding in vulnerable areas.

Monitoring of Low-Pressure Areas (LPAs)

In addition to the heavy rains, PAGASA is also monitoring two low-pressure areas (LPAs) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), as well as another LPA outside PAR.

One of these LPAs has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, which may bring even more intense weather and rainfall to the region.

Staying Alert and Prepared

With the bad weather expected to continue, residents and students in the affected areas are advised to stay alert for further weather updates and follow the instructions of local authorities.

Those in flood-prone areas should take extra precautions to avoid any risks related to flooding.

Conclusion

The suspension of classes is a necessary measure to ensure the safety of everyone amidst the heavy rains caused by the southwest monsoon.

The PAGASA will continue to monitor the situation, and class suspensions may be extended or adjusted depending on the evolving weather conditions.
